Admission to the M1 program happens through the submission of an application on the platform:
- Applications for students from EU countries will be made on https://monmaster.gouv.fr/
- Applications for students from countries outside the EU will be available on Études en France

What do you need for the application?
- Submit a cover letter
- Present a research topic for the thesis in the field of contemporary art history with a global dimension
- Provide proof of sufficient English language proficiency (level C1 or equivalent, i.e., grades obtained in English in a bachelor's degree)

Do I need to obtain a professor’s agreement to apply?
No, you do not need an agreement in principle. However, it is recommended that you ensure that your proposed topic has a global dimension.

Is a letter of recommendation required?
No, the requested documents are sufficient.

What level of English is required?
You need a C1 or equivalent, i.e., grades obtained in English in a bachelor's degree.

Will all classes be held in English?
Yes, they will mainly be held in English but expect to have also some in French. While we are open to combine several languages in the discussions, the texts and resources will be available in English, and you can write your master thesis in English or French.

I have been accepted into your master's program. However, I do not yet have a bachelor's degree, which I should obtain by September. Can I enroll?
Registration can normally take place even if the bachelor's degree has not yet been validated (administrative and academic registration). Once the degree has been awarded, the student must send it to the administrative registration department, which will verify its validity and confirm (or cancel) the registration.

The Master 2 “Global History of Contemporary Art” is automatically open to students who have completed a Master 1 “Global History of Contemporary Art” or, through external application and depending on availability, to students who have completed an M1 in another course in the “Art History” program or another compatible master's program, both French and foreign.
For students who have completed an M1 in another program in the “History of Art” major or another compatible master's major, admission to M2 is exclusively through the submission of an online application on the local eCandidat platform according to the schedule defined each year.
In M2, students with a foreign university degree (including non-European degrees) apply under the same conditions, according to the same schedule and procedures as students with a French degree.
